Why Mercury, Root Canals, and Oral Infections Are Destroying Your Health

About this Podcast
Dr. Gene Sambataro graduated from dental school in 1980 as valedictorian, giving the commencement speech where the dean predicted he would change the world of dentistry. Nobody expected he would do it by calling his dental supplier demanding all mercury be removed from his office after realizing he was poisoning patients with amalgam fillings. He was doing everything he was taught in dental school. Plugging teeth with mercury, performing root canals, and fluoride treatments. Traditional dentistry at its finest. Then divine intervention arrived through his best friend's stage four melanoma diagnosis.
On Legacy and Longevity Podcast with host Zach Dancel, Dr. Gene Sambataro reveals why alternative cancer clinic Livingston Wheeler refused to treat his dying friend until mercury fillings were removed, how 60 Minutes exposed the ADA clinical director admitting mercury is safe in mouths but toxic waste when drilled out, and why root canal testing shows botulism gangrene and E. coli in extracted teeth. He explains how dentistry became siloed from medicine through barber surgeon origins creating separate schools insurance and records, why pregnancy gingivitis proves hormonal oral health connections, and how mouth breathing children develop narrow jaws causing structural sleep apnea orthodontists then treat with braces instead of addressing root cause.
Three To Six Months To Live Changed Everything
Dr. Sambataro's best friend from grade school got stage four melanoma in 1987. Doctors gave him three to six months to live. Being stubborn Italian, his friend refused chemo and radiation, saying you're telling me I'm going to die anyway. By grace of God, he found Livingston Wheeler alternative clinic in San Diego. When he walked in, clinic staff said open your mouth. They saw mercury fillings covering his teeth and flat out refused treatment. Our therapies won't be as effective when your body is being infested with mercury toxic fillings day in and day out 24-7.
When his friend told him, Dr. Gene's first reaction was, that's BS; I don't believe those stories. Then the light bulb went off. What if this is true? What if I'm poisoning my patients? He found Dr. Hal Huggins' book "It's All In Your Head" about mercury dangers and called him in Colorado Springs saying I'd love to train with you. That training became the biggest paradigm shift in his professional life. He called his dental dealer the next day. Hey, you got to come here and get all this mercury out of my office. I'm not putting this stuff in patients mouths ever ever again. His friend is still alive 40 years later.
Safe In Mouth Toxic Waste When Removed
Mercury has been removed from thermometers, blood pressure devices, eye drops, and topical treatments because of documented toxicity. Every environmental mercury source was eliminated except one place where the American Dental Association claimed it was perfectly safe. Your mouth. The ADA clinical director told 60 Minutes in the 1990s that once mercury is placed in mouth, it's locked into filling and not released. Morey Safer asked what happens when you drill filling out during removal. Director said dentists must place it in toxic waste containers requiring hazardous material protocols.
Mercury was safe one minute ago inside the patient's mouth but suddenly became toxic waste the moment it's removed. That contradiction was never explained. Dr. Sambataro was already collecting mercury when removing fillings in the 1990s using separators so it didn't go into wastewater. That practice became mandatory decades later. People like biological dentists are moving this train much faster than in the past.
Botulism Gangrene E Coli In Root Canal Teeth
Root canal teeth can be sent to laboratories for dental DNA testing analyzing 96 different microbes that might create systemic disease. The results still amaze Dr. Sambataro after decades of testing. Botulism, gangrene, E. coli show up in extracted root canal teeth and jawbone cavitations where wisdom teeth were removed but never healed properly. These pathogens flourish in low-oxygen environments where root canals create perfect anaerobic conditions for bacteria, fungus, and parasites to multiply without immune system intervention.
The tooth looks fine on the surface. No pain, no swelling, no fever. But testing reveals dangerous infections leaching into bloodstream 24-7 contributing to cardiovascular disease, diabetes, neuro-cognitive issues, and systemic inflammation that never resolves until source is removed. Some dentists now claim they do biological root canals using lasers and ozone. Dr. Sambataro calls that an oxymoron. How are you testing them? If you're not using oral DNA and dental DNA to verify the tooth is clean, you have no proof it's not affecting patients systemically.
Weston Price was a lead researcher for the American Dental Association, doing extensive studies showing the dangers of root canals. They didn't like that research because who does root canals? Dentists. If I'm doing root canals, I don't want to be blamed for causing systemic issues. The research disappeared. Cavitations were discussed in dental literature in 1800s. GB Black, father of modern dentistry in early 1900s, talked about cavitations. Then suddenly in oral pathology textbooks, the chapter about cavitations disappeared. We don't want to blame ourselves. It's cognitive dissonance.
Fluoride Not A Deficiency In Human Biochemistry
Dr. Sambataro wrote articles in late 1980s stating fluoride is not a deficiency in the body. Nowhere in our biochemistry do we have fluoride. Why would we put that in our body? It's a toxin. They fight it so hard. Recently, they came out with an article claiming fluoride given to teenagers improves cognitive performance. That study had obvious flaws contradicting decades of research showing fluoride toxicity and cognitive harm, especially during development.
The profession called it the greatest public health achievement ever pushed on population without consent. Nobody asked if we wanted fluoride in water. When Dr. Sambataro started questioning mercury and fluoride safety, colleagues told him he must not have graduated from dental school if he believes fluoride isn't safe. Cognitive dissonance again. He never went to another ADA or Maryland State Dental Association meeting after his paradigm shift. He found the holistic dental association, International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology, and International Academy of Biological Medicine and Dentistry instead.
Pregnancy Gingivitis Proves Hormonal Oral Connection
Something called pregnancy gingivitis shows why women during pregnancy have puffy bleeding gums. Because of hormonal changes occurring. It goes away after birth, which is fortunate. But what if someone's not pregnant? Why do they have bleeding puffy gums? Something else is going on. Is it systemic inflammation? Is it hormonal? Is it digestive? The mouth reflects body terrain. If you have poor nutrition, you develop decay in teeth or periodontal disease. Dentists intervene. We don't look at what's the root cause. Why is this person getting cavities?
Is there vitamin D3, K2, calcium deficiency? No, we just patch the tooth and unfortunately put mercury amalgam in there. So not only have we not gotten to root cause, we created another problem. We may have saved teeth but created toxicity in systemic health. Body can only handle so many toxins. Mercury amalgam has become a bigger issue now because we're dealing with chemical toxins in food and air. It's all cumulative. Dealing with air, food, EMFs, and now mercury in mouth is one more thing to push you over edge.
Mouth Breathing Children Structural Sleep Apnea
If infants aren't breastfed up to about 18 months, you don't get proper jaw development, according to Weston Price research on nutrition and physical degeneration. You have narrow jaws, which affects airway and affects tongue posture. Now we have myofunctional issues, soft tissue issues. We're trying to correct this by putting braces on because teeth are crowded. Their teeth are crowded because their jaw's too small, which is causing airway issue. This is structural sleep apnea, not someone who has nasal congestion, not someone extremely overweight, not someone with neuro-cognitive issues.
A three or four year old whose mouth breathing, whose clenching teeth, whose having emotional issues and not sleeping. We can intervene at a very early age. ENT will say their tonsils are enlarged, let's take them out. But the reason tonsils may be enlarged is because they're mouth breathing causing airflow into the back of throat causing swelling. Or they have food allergy or food intolerance, which is more common, whether gluten or dairy causing an allergic reaction causing tonsils to be swollen, then going the other way around causing them to breathe through mouth because they can't get air through nose. Have we really helped that patient by removing tonsils? NO!!!
